The Davies family has moved more than most do in a lifetime. In fact, they have moved 15 times in the last 20 years and have built six of those homes. Drees Custom Homes has been a trusted partner along the way, building the family's last three homes through our Elevate program, which offers buyers the opportunity to build on their own land, in a custom community or via an infill opportunity.
This time around, the family chose to build a floor plan brand new to the Dallas area, but beloved in other Drees metros. In fact, they drove hours to tour a model of this new floor plan before deciding it was the one.
As seasoned vets when it comes to home building, Stuart and Van-Khanh Davies sat down to provide us with insights into the building process and their tips and tricks learned along the way.
For our third custom build with Drees, we chose the Lynmar II. It was important for us to have an oversized room for a home gym, and the Lynmar II's optional independent living suite was perfect for that. We also love how open the home feels and that each bedroom has its own bathroom and offers privacy.
The entire build process is always exciting. We love everything from the framing process, where you can see the rooms start to take shape, to the end where all the finishes start to come in and it feels like a home. Some of our favorite spaces include the independent living suite (used as a home gym), the huge, open kitchen with a 48” gas range and oversized island, the working pantry with a door that hides all our food and countertop appliances, the custom owner's suite closet connected to the laundry room, and the extended outdoor patio for entertaining. We also love the large open windows throughout the house that let in a great amount of natural lighting.
We really enjoy working with the Drees family, which is why we’re back for our third build. Our Market Manager Maurine Farris helped us make structural changes to fit our needs and has been there every step of the way to answer our many questions. We had a vision for our home and Drees Design Consultant Crystal Garrison helped pull it together. Our Builder Brian Adkins provided weekly updates, so we knew what to expect, especially because building during a pandemic can be a little unpredictable.
This is actually our second home with Crystal and Brian, so they both know us pretty well by now. Seeing all the options, upgrades and color selections come together has made us love our home more than we could’ve imagined when it was only on paper.
Do your homework. We chose Drees, because we wanted a reputable builder who has been around a long time with a lot of experience and will be around for a long time after our home is completed.
Know what is important to make the home functional for your family. Make Pinterest your best friend. Know what you like and don’t like. We showed our Pinterest board to our Design Consultant, which helped her understand the look we wanted.
When in doubt on whether to do an electrical upgrade, just do it. You don’t want to punch holes in walls later.
Lastly, be patient and know that Drees will always make things right.
Why did we choose Drees this time around? Because Drees has already built two other fabulous homes for us within the last 10 years. Each time, we were custom building on a lot that we purchased, so we could use any builder that we wanted. We keep staying with Drees, because there are so many floor plans to choose from and we are able to customize the designs to meet our needs.
