Step-By-Step Guide: Deck Your Drees Home for the Holidays

Trim the tree, string the lights and go ahead and hang those stockings with care - the most festive season of the year is here, and it’s time to start decking your Drees home for the holidays!
There are quintessential elements to holiday decorating, of course - the tree, the stockings, garland and lights. But gone are the days in which holiday decorating was defined by only shades of red and green. Now, you can enjoy a silent night beside a tree adorned in blue florals and amber ornaments. Or, incorporate dehydrated oranges and pieces of greenery for a very classic Christmas look. And if you still can’t decide, no worries, we’ve rounded up three holiday décor styles for you to explore - Holly Jolly Vibes, Classic Christmas and Sophisticated Season’s Greetings.
There are so many choices when it comes to decking your halls! To help you make the most of your Drees home this holiday season, we partnered with Drees homeowner and entertaining expert Tara Berger from One Stylish Party. Our step-by-step guide makes it simple to serve up seasonal splendor!

When Tara decorates her Drees home (our Ash Lawn floor plan) for the holidays, she selects a new color palette each year to give her home a fresh look. But that doesn’t mean she starts from scratch each year - she reuses some staple elements such as faux greenery and garlands, Christmas trees and other small accents.
“The color scheme helps determine the direction for the tree ornaments, ribbons, accent pillows and other new decorative items I add to our collection each year,” Tara shared.
This season, Tara chose a neutral, earthy color palette and incorporated various hues of orange.

The focal point of Tara’s family room is the striking, two-story stacked ledgerstone fireplace, so naturally she set up her tree adjacent to the fire. (It also makes for extremely cozy vibes, let's be honest.) She decorated the 9-foot Christmas tree with tan, cream and aged copper ornaments, along with dried orange slices and rust ribbon accents.
“Our staircase is draped with a 20 ft faux cedar garland, tied with rust ribbon bows and truly is a wow factor next to our stacked stone fireplace,” Tara shared.
Other family room accents include knit stockings, seasonal art, a wooden Christmas countdown sign, a large window wreath, rust colored accent pillows, plaid throw blankets, sleigh bells, reindeer figurines and more.

Tara added seasonal accents to the kitchen, carrying over the earthy theme from the family room. A faux cedar wreath and garland adorn the stovetop area, complete with a garland made of orange slices on the range hood.
“When my husband and I were designing our home, we debated on whether or not to add a decorative wooden mantle above our stove, and now I am so glad we did because it is one of my favorite places to decorate for each holiday,” Tara said.
In the breakfast room just off the kitchen, Tara set the table with a simple rust plaid tablecloth, brown leather chargers, classic white dinnerware and aged copper mugs. The centerpiece is simple - a few sprigs of fresh cedar greenery, accented with copper votive candles and a few wooden Christmas tree figurines.
Share your fa-la-la-la-fantasticly festive home with the people you love. Tara is hosting a small holiday brunch this year so her guests can come and go as their schedules allow. She plans to keep the menu relatively simple so she can spend less time prepping and more time with her loved ones. She’s creating a charcuterie board with breakfast pastries, nuts and fresh fruit (YUM) and plans to use her custom wet bar for a mimosa/cocktail/mocktail station.

“I absolutely love how easy entertaining is in our Ash Lawn floor plan with the family room, kitchen and breakfast rooms all connected, and that I don’t have to miss a beat with my guests if I am finishing up cooking or cleaning in the kitchen,” Tara said.
