Drees Homes Builds New Home For Deserving Military Family

Mar 09, 2022

DURHAM, NC — Drees Homes is honored to partner with the US Veterans Corps, the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and Greenhawk Development to build a new home for a veteran and his family.

Drees, along with the nonprofit Operation Coming Home, held a Raise the Roof ceremony in honor of US Army Staff Sgt. Michael Kacer on March 10. The ceremony took place in Brightleaf at the Kacers’ new home, which is in the framing stage of construction.

Kacer, who was severely wounded while deployed in 2008, is very involved in athletics for wounded veterans. He has made Paralympic Track and Field Nationals every year since 2011. He has also medaled in three events at the inaugural Invictus Games in London and four events at Orlando's Invictus Games. He now uses his platform to speak about mental health and suicide prevention.

Raleigh Division President Jerry Dean said the project is close to his heart, as his son is a K-9 handler in the military. “At Drees, we love our military families and have similar beliefs and values,” Dean shared. “This project requires teamwork by so many, so I want to express my gratitude to Drees Homes, its dedicated employees, and the vendor and trade partners who helped make this happen.”

Drees is building the Dawn floor plan, which will be outfitted with features to best suit Kacer’s lifestyle. The home will feature double handrails, a zero-entrance shower and 36” wide doors throughout the home. Drees will host a key ceremony when the home is completed this summer.
