DURHAM, NC - Drees is partnering with the US Veterans Corps and the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County to build a new home for a deserving veteran.
Retired Staff Sgt. Michael Kacer, his wife Jessica Schulman and their daughter, Jordan, will be the recipients of the 25th home gifted through Operation Coming Home.
Drees’ Raleigh division – Regional President Dave Hausfeld, Raleigh Division President Jerry Dean and Market Manager Amanda Arlauskas – presented the news to the family at a University of North Carolina football game this fall.
“Seeing their faces light up with joy at the UNC football game announcement was an amazing experience. I can’t wait to see their dreams become a reality.” Amanda shared.
Michael, who was severely wounded while deployed in 2008, is extremely involved in athletic events for wounded veterans. He has made Paralympic Track and Field Nationals every year since 2011. He has also medaled in three events at the inaugural Invictus Games in London and four events at Orlando’s Invictus Games.
He now uses his sports platform to speak about mental health, abuse (domestic, emotional and substance) and suicide prevention.
Drees will build the Kacer family’s new home at Brightleaf in Durham. The home’s floor plan, the Dawn, will offer today’s most desired features like a main-level owner’s suite, screened-in outdoor living space and gameroom.
Raleigh Sales Manager Tyle Kick shared, “We are all super excited and honored to be a part of this project. It takes building someone’s dream home to a whole new level!” Jerry also expressed, “I am personally grateful to Drees for allowing Raleigh to participate in this venture. My son is active duty military and this makes it so special for me personally. Every time I mention it, I get choked up just thinking about this soldier’s sacrifice for my freedoms.”
The Kacer family’s home is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2022.
