What floor plan did you choose, and what attracted you to this design?

We looked at various floor plans. All of them had their own uniqueness, but the one that stood out to us was the Alwick due to its high ceiling family room and big game room on the first floor. When we first saw it, we knew this was what we needed. It looked quite spacious, and we really liked the layout that featured a big kitchen with a good size pantry and pocket office. Other features that attracted us to the Alwick were its many windows that let the sunlight in, a large owner's suite and a laundry room conveniently located on the second floor. We really loved the design!

As you have watched your new home’s design come to life, what have been your favorite features?

We have loved almost every feature of our beautiful home, as it is a perfectly laid out plan with everything in the right place where we wanted it to be. But our favorite feature is the high ceiling family room, which makes the whole house look very connected, and the gameroom which is on the first floor where our little kids spend most of their time playing.

What did you enjoy most about the building process?

It was our very first home building experience, and we were really excited about it. We enjoyed each individual phase starting from design center selections, foundation, framing, drywall and the most exciting phase of interior finishing. We would wait for the weekly status email from our Builder to inform us about the construction progress, and then we would visit every weekend to see it ourselves. For first-time homebuyers, it is so enjoyable and fulfilling to watch your dream home come into existence gradually and then finally delivered to you just like a baby is born!

What advice would you give others who are interested in building a home? 

Our advice to new home buyers would be to visit different Drees model homes to understand the layout and feel it before you finalize a floor plan. Also, one important thing to remember is that there are certain options which are structural in nature and they are difficult to add once you have signed a contract as there are change costs involved and a potential delay. Make sure to discuss each individual structural option with your Market Manager and select what you would like to have in your new home.

Why did you choose to build with Drees?

Initially, when we decided that we are going to build the new home, we met with different builders serving this region and had a detailed discussion about the design to build process, cost, quality of materials, company reviews and reputation, etc. We talked to existing homeowners who had purchased from these builders to gather their feedback.
