After a successful first home build, Skipper and Penny returned to Drees Homes with confidence, choosing to build again—this time with the Corona floor plan. Their decision was rooted in trust and a desire to create a space that could comfortably host family gatherings while still feeling intimate and functional for everyday life. With thoughtful design choices and a layout that welcomes their beloved granddaughter and extended family, their new home reflects both experience and heart. This spotlight celebrates their journey and the meaningful reasons they chose Drees not once, but twice.
We chose the Corona floor plan because we loved the spaciousness of the living area. The main living area offered easy flow for entertaining with the family room, kitchen and dining area all in a good-sized space. The walk-in pantry was Skipper’s priority along with the three-car garage. We also liked how the primary suite was isolated from the other two bedrooms and each had an ensuite bath attached. The bedrooms are such great sizes! (So many builders reduce bedroom sizes. Drees really does not.) Additionally, we love the pocket office and use it every day. It is truly our “home central!”
This is a difficult question to answer as we love it all! If we had to choose one area, it would be our kitchen. The kitchen is the heart of our home. We love to bake and prepare meals together. In addition, the area which was labeled “wine bar” on the floor plan is what we call the buffet. We have loved serving guests a lovely self-serve meal from that space. If needed, it can also be utilized as a bar. It's truly perfect for entertaining!
The build time was kept on such a tight schedule! We loved that the progress was timely with no delays at all. It seemed that every day brought something new to our home and every week brought so much change! We loved the walkthrough appointments and appreciated always being aware of what was going on week by week.
Our advice to others would be to visit as many model homes or homes under construction to ensure that you educate yourself on the best choices available. Find a reputable builder like Drees Homes with whom you can place your trust. Talk to other families who have built a home with a company worth considering. Go into the Design Center meeting with ideas and photos of homes/rooms you like. Make a Pinterest board featuring inspiration to take with you. Decide on the priorities in a new home build. Most boxes, but probably not ALL boxes, will be “checked” off the list. Lastly, take extra time to study the floor plan to decide if any alterations need to be made.
This home is our second build with Drees. Drees gained our trust through the build of our first home and our trust on the second skyrocketed! We trusted the advice and decision-making process that Drees provided. We are from a small town and were very apprehensive about living in a metropolitan area, but wanted to live near our son and daughter-in-law. We felt like dealing with a corporate builder was not the road we wanted to pursue. However, in touring the Drees model, we were impressed with the detail and high level of craftsmanship offered. Our Market Manager Shauna Smith was so patient and helpful to us when navigating and exploring the possibilities of our dream to be near family. Our home is everything we hoped! We feel Shauna and our Builder Reid Smith were really on top of everything! They went the extra mile to help make our dream home come true. Forever friends were made with the Drees team and we would like to thank them for bringing our family home to life!
