There is no one-size-fits-all for holiday decorating, so for those of you who aren’t into the traditional reds, greens and golds, we present to you a whimsical holiday look – made possible by incorporating alternative colors like magenta, pink, purple and periwinkle.
Holiday decorating is no longer defined by a singular color palette – take Kelly Rowland’s holiday look, for example. Kelly, a Senior Market Manager in the Nashville area, will be celebrating her first Christmas in her dream Drees home this year! Inspired by the iridescent colors of fallen raindrops, Kelly decorated her Elmsley to create a whimsical wonderland.
Two of the shades Kelly chose – magenta and periwinkle – have been trending over the last couple years. Pantone named Very Peri the 2022 Color of the Year with Viva Magenta the spotlight for 2023. Who says you can’t have a purple Christmas?
Kelly’s party guests will get a taste of the Sugar Plum Fairy vibes before they ever step foot on the porch; her railings are adorned with purple burlap bows that compliment the magenta hydrangeas on either side of the door. To achieve the ombre color on the hydrangeas, Kelly employed a little DIY and spray painted the dried florals before arranging them in planters.
Look closely, and you’ll notice the hydrangeas in several locations throughout the home – even Kelly’s Christmas trees sport pops of these ombre flowers. Speaking of trees, you won’t see any red or green on these Christmas trees! Keeping with the fairytale wonderland theme, Kelly opted for glittery bows, lustrous, pearly ornaments and even dainty butterflies. And because this look is anything but traditional, the trees wear a feathered hat in lieu of a star.
The fireplace, complete with intricate tile work, is no doubt a focal point of the family room. To play this up, Kelly added flocked greenery, sprawling lights and curled purple ribbon for dimension.
The dreamy feels fan out to the kitchen, dining area and even outdoor living space. Mirroring the family room’s setup, Kelly placed two Christmas trees on either side of the fireplace for a symmetrical look. She incorporated purple ribbon into the garland on the mantle, a nod to the pops of purple throughout her home.
There are so many choices when it comes to decking your halls! If you can’t decide just how to decorate, no worries, we’ve rounded up three holiday décor styles for you to explore – Holly Jolly Vibes, Classic Christmas and Sophisticated Season’s Greetings. And maybe you relish in the unconventional like Kelly does, and in that case, we wish you a perfect, purple holiday season!
